Jayson Gillham triumphally returns to his native Australia in the Queensland Symphony Orchestra’s season opening concert playing Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4 in G major on the 3rd of September. The performance takes place at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre concert hall in Brisbane and features three Queensland-born international artists including conductor Dane Lam and award-winning young composer Sebastian Lingane. The internationally released recording hailed by iTunes, Apple Music and the Australian press, has been selected among “uncovered gems of this year Beethoven Piano Concertos releases” by Jed Distler at the Gramophone Magazine in December 2020.
Jayson Gillham will perform a live-streamed duo recital with Juliana Koch, Principal oboe of the London Symphony Orchestra from St Paul’s Knightsbridge in London featuring works by Clara Schumann, Nikos Skalkottas and Maurice Ravel. The recital will take place on 25 March and will be available on demand for two weeks afterwards.
Jayson Gillham’s live concert recording of the Beethoven Piano Concertos cycle with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and Nicholas Carter on ABC Classic has been nominated for ARIA 2020 in the Best Classical Album category. This cycle – the first in twenty years recorded with an Australian pianist, conductor and orchestra – released internationally in May this year has received high critical acclaim and is a significant contribution to the worldwide celebrations of the Beethoven’s anniversary.

Jayson Gillham will play his first online recital since the March lockdown as part of the Tait Memorial Trust initiative in support of the Tait Emergency Relief Fund for Australian & New Zealand Artists. The performance will take place on September 8th with all-Chopin programme and will be streamed at following times and time zones: 9pm AEST | 8pm NZST | 7pm BST.
On 28 February ABC Classic announced the release of the complete piano concertos by Beethoven, performed by Australian-British pianist Jayson Gillham, with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra conducted by Nicholas Carter. This cycle – the first in twenty years recorded with an Australian pianist, conductor and orchestra – is a major contribution to the ongoing celebrations of Beethoven’s 250th anniversary.
Recorded in five concerts performed over 10 days at Adelaide’s Elder Hall in June 2019, these recordings capture a soloist, conductor and orchestra totally in synch with each other, with a shared vision for the sound world and rhetoric of these mighty works. Reviews of the concert remarked at the “chamber music-like intimacy” between the performers, with a “sense of balance and support… often never heard before within these well-known and much listened to works” (Limelight).
Hailed by Limelight Magazine, ABC Classic and The Australian as one of the musical highlights of 2019, Jayson Gillham’s Beethoven piano concerto cycle performed with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra under Nicholas Carter last June is broadcast on January 1st, 2nd , 3rd and 4th this year on ABC Classic in celebration of Beethoven’s 250th anniversary year.

In August this year Jayson Gillham embarks on a special collaboration with the young Australian star soprano Nicole Car and the renowned Canadian baritone Etienne Dupuis on their joint recital tour presenting the intimate repertoire of French and Spanish songs as well as operatic arias, duets and solo piano works. Their much anticipated project will take all three celebrated artists to Sydney’s City Recital Hall on August 3rd, Melbourne Recital Centre on August 7th, Canberra Theatre Centre on August 9 and it will be concluded at Brisbane QPAC Concert Hall on August 11th.
